Summer Vacation week 11

This was our last week of summer.  The twins and Hailey started high school sports, volleyball for Hailey and Cross Country for the twins.  We have a fire burning really close to us, so we still get a lot of smoke here, it usually clears for a while in the afternoon and then gets bad at night and in the morning, it isnt much fun. A couple of days the twins had to run through the hallways at school because the smoke was too bad to be outside. We did go swimming one evening after dinner, it will probably be the last time this summer.

Saturday evening Lydia, Katie and Nicole did a race.  It was called the Yakima Mile.  Lydia ran first, she did great she got 6:47 and came in 4th place for the girls her age, she was pretty happy about that, she got a medal.  Katie and Nicole ran later, they also did great, Nicole got 5:34 and 7th place and Katie got 5:39 and 8th place.  They were all pretty happy to be racing again.  it was also fun because they did an elite race so some olympic runners came and raced-they were fun to watch they were so fast.

Summer Vacation Week 10

Hailey, Katie and Nicole spent the first part of the week at girls camp.  They left Monday and spent the day on a hike, then they spent Tuesday and Wednesday at a church owned property called Camp Zarahemla, where they spent time on the lake and doing different group activities.  They had a really good time.  Marc went up Monday night and spent Tuesday and Wednesday there as well.

While they were gone Lydia and I had a visit from my parents, they came down to get fruit, we had fun going out to eat with them and playing games.

We have been having quite a bit of smoke from the fire that is close by us, so we had to spend a lot more time indoors, it does seem to be getting a little better so that is good.  Friday night Marc and I left the girls home and we spent the night in the tri cities and then went to an early temple session Saturday morning.  it was great to go to the temple again.

Lydia has been working hard to memorize all of the articles of faith, when the kids memorize them all the primary president makes them a pie. Lydia passed them all off last Sunday so she got her pie today, she chose a blackberry pie, she was even nice enough to share.

Also this Sunday I got a new calling, I am the Young Womens President, it will be busy, but fun to be with all my girls.

We ended the night with a very good fireside with Hank Smith, he spoke at our stake center for all the youth, it was really good.

Kyle Update

Kyle spent almost 7 months in oakley, he loved it there. During that time he turned into quite the cowboy, he just really loved the lifestyle and the people there.  He made some great friends and really enjoyed serving the people there, Im sure it was hard for him to leave.  He also served as the District Leader there, and seemed to enjoy serving with the people in his dristrict.

pictures with his district

fun during pioneer day activities

His dristrict got to go to the temple last week

We love talking to him on Mondays, he sounds great and always has good stories to tell us.  He especially loves doing service for people.

Summer Vacation week 9

The first part of the week was really nice, the smoke cleared out and we were able to be outside, it was even a little cooler.  Hailey got to go river rafting with the youth from church on Tuesday, she had a really fun day.  On Thursday the smoke moved back, it has been really bad.  Hailey got to go to the temple with her Murdock cousins on Thursday, she enjoyed that.  On Thursday night we met up with the Murdock family and went to a baseball game, it was fun but hot and smoky so we didnt stay the whole time.

This is one of Kyles friends from high school, it was fun that he was on one of the teams.

Kyle got moved  from Oakley on Thursday, he is now in a city called Gooding, we havent talked to him but I am sure he was pretty sad to leave.  We did get a text from a member in Gooding who had him over for dinner, he is the football coach there, so they had fun talking.

This was his facebook post he put on when he left Oakley, he is all cowboy these days.

The rest of the week was smoky and we were stuck inside, we did have a fun movie night on Friday watching Once I was Engaged.  We made lots of peach pie, and homemade ice cream, and did another puzzle together

Summer Vacation week 8

It was really smokey most of the week, so we were stuck inside.  The girls all had to run and walk on the treadmill, which they dont really like. We played lots of games, read lots of books, and did a couple of puzzles. We watched a lot of the Olympics. The girls did get to go to the climbing gym on Tuesday for their church activity and they really liked that.

Thursday night Marc, Hailey, Katie, and Nicole left for a hike called the Enchantments, they drove to the parking lot, slept in the car and then a shuttle picked them up early Friday morning and drove them up to the top parking lot where they began their 19 mile hike(26 miles according to Haileys fitbit).

The first part of the hike was pretty crowded, a lot of people just go to the first lake.  They did see a bear.

The first lake was really pretty and then they had to hike up Aasgard pass, this was pretty challenging, it involved a lot of climbing over rocks and boulders.

It was really pretty at the top. There were also lots of mountain goats.

And then the way down was pretty challenging as well, parts of it were pretty steep.  They stopped for awhile and had lunch and soaked their feet in a lake.  They went pretty fast on the way down, poor Marc had a toe that didnt like the downhill, it is very purple and Im sure the whole toenail will fall off soon.

Marc and the twins played in the river at the end.

They stopped for ice cream on the way home.

They finished in about 11 hours, they all said they would do it again. They thought it was so pretty. It was a very fun adventure for them.

Saturday we were able to go to the temple and do baptisms.  Lydia and I waited outside for them and then we went to a park and had a picnic and walked and rode scooters for awhile.  It was another fun outing.
