Memorial day weekend

We went to my parents house for the long weekend.  We left Friday evening, a little later than we had planned, but it ended up being good, we didn't have any traffic, so the drive went really well.  Saturday was pretty wet but that didn't stop the kids from being outside all day long.  They worked on the tree house, hauled firewood, and played all day.  While we were there Daniels little girl Lillian was also there so everyone had fun playing with her as well.  Sunday we went to church, and then Rachel and Tyler's family came over for some fun games and fun cousin time.  Unfortunately Lydia threw up during the night and was sick all Monday morning.  Marc and Kyle and Grandpa went and walked the property where kyle will be doing his Eagle project and when they got back we drove home.  It was a great weekend.

A race

Katie, Nicole, and Lydia ran in a race today.  The race is 1.2 miles and is for kindergartners through 5th graders, so Kyle and Hailey were to old to compete but decided to run it anyways.  It is a really fun event, this is the third year that the kids have ran the race, Lydia was pretty excited to be able to run this year, Marc ran with her and she was able to run the whole thing.  They give awards for the top three in each grade.  Nicole got 2nd place for 4th grade girls and Katie got 3rd place.

Kyle actually came in 3rd place

Hailey had fun because she got to run with her cousin Kylee

Soccer

Lydia had her last soccer game today.  She has enjoyed playing soccer and Marc really liked coaching, I dont know if he will have time to coach next year or not, I am really glad he was able to do it this year.  It was a really fun team, all the kids were really nice kids.
My friend took these pictures of Lydia at least weeks game, it rained the whole game.

Haileys last choir concert

Tonight was Haileys last choir concert of the year and as of right now she has decided to not take choir next year.  She has loved choir and I love that she is trying new things and developing her talents.  The concert was nice, they sang a song from Hunger Games, and a song called car wash.  Then the 3 choirs combined and sang a really cool mashup of True Colors by Cyndi Lauper and Brave by Sara Bareilles, it was a song that was put together for kids with cancer and it was really good.  They also gave out awards, there was a 3 way tie in her class for best Soprano and she was one of them.

Student of the month

I got an email the other day from Nicole's teacher telling me that she was chosen as student of the month and that she would be honored at an assembly, that I was invited to attend.  So I got to go on Monday and watch Nicole receive her award.

Mothers Day

I had a nice Mothers Day.  The kids and Marc showered me with all kinds of fun gifts and cards and nice little notes.

Unfortunately Marc is not home much on Sundays since he has been called as the bishop, so he was gone most of the day.  Church was nice.  After church we ate a quick dinner and then drove over to the cemetery, it has become a tradition to visit Marc's Moms grave on Mothers Day.  The kids love getting flowers ready to take and we always take to time to clean off the gravestone and share memories of her.  She was a wonderful Mom and Grandma.  The kids also love to feed the ducks and geese while we are there.

I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to be a Mom.  There are days when it is exhausting and hard but I know that I have learned and grown so much from being a Mom.  I love my kids, they are good and are making such good choices and I love being a part of that.

Kyle

Kyle has been enjoying mountain biking lately.  We have a couple of  great mountain biking areas within about 5 minutes of our house.  This past Saturday Kyle and Marc and some friends went out for a couple of hours, they came home dusty and sore but had a good time.
Kyle has also been working hard on Scouts, his goal is to do his Eagle project this summer.  He has a couple more merit badges to earn, and then he will be done.  There was a Court of Honor this past week and he received 3 merit badges.

Just Jack and the Beanstalk

Hailey tried out for a play a couple of months ago.  She was pretty nervous to try out. There were about 300 kids that tried out, she was pretty excited to make callbacks  and then the next day she found out that she had gotten the part of the chicken in the play, Just Jack and the Beanstalk.  She has been working really hard and going to lots of practices and this weekend they did 3 shows.  We all went and watched Friday night and then Marc and I went to the Saturday night performance as well.  She did a really good job, she was a talking chicken so she had a few lines and made some great chicken noises, and She saved the day at the end of the show by laying a golden egg.  It was a really fun experience for her, she learned a lot and made a lot of new friends, she says she would like to try out again next year.
