One week old

Lydia is one week old today. It has been a fun crazy week. The kids have loved having their little sister home. They love gathering around and talking to her. I had to make the rule that when she is laying on the blanket no one is allowed to be on the blanket, that way she has a little space. They love to watch me change her they want to see what is in the diaper, and they love to watch me give her a bath. We are also having to learn a lot of patience because I cant do everything at once so the kids are learning to wait or to help each other with things. Lydia is doing great she is a good eater which is nice, that is something that all the other kids struggled with at first. She sleeps good but not always at the right time she still prefers to sleep during the day rather then at night. She loves to snuggle, I'm pretty sure that she would let me hold and snuggle her all day if I could.

Thank you Mom

I have the best Mom. 2 weeks ago when I thought I was going to have the baby she jumped in her car and left everything and came over to help. Of course we ended up not having the baby for another week and a half but she stayed and helped even though I'm sure that she had a lot of her own things to do at home, and she would have loved to have been at home in her own bed. But it was so nice having her here she really helped out with the kids a lot. I was pretty uncomfortable towards the end of the pregnancy and it was nice having her here to walk the kids to the bus stop and play with them outside and she could jump up a lot faster then I could when they needed something. It was especially nice having her here when I was at the hospital, I was able to know that all was well at home and that the kids were taken care of. And of course we had a lot of fun with her here to. I wish I would have taken pictures, but here are some of our favorite things from while she was here
-Tea parties with the girls
-Kick ball games in the backyard
-Lots of games of Quiddler
-the Little Bugger song
-Birthday cake and Blizzards
-Haileys special shopping trip

Lydia Rose Murdock

The doctor decided that we needed to go ahead and start my labor on Thursday she didn't want the baby to get any bigger. So Thursday morning at 6:oo we got to the hospital. They got an IV started on the first try which was a miracle and then at about 7:oo they got me started on petocin. Marc and I spent the morning trying to find something to watch on TV we were pretty bored, we should have brought a game or something. I was having contractions from the beginning but they didn't really hurt and they weren't doing a whole lot. Finally at about 2:00 the doctor came and broke my water, then things got going. The contractions picked up and I started dilating pretty quickly. I decided not to have an epidural, which I think was a mistake. Things got pretty painful, luckily they went relatively quickly and at 5:00 she was born. She had the cord around her shoulders which made it extra hard and she came out very blue but they quickly gave her some oxygen and she was soon doing fine. She weighed 10 lbs. and was 20 1/2 inches long her head was 14 inches around. She is beautiful, we love her already. We had fun bringing her home and showing her to the kids, they have been really enjoying her.

Shes still not here

On Monday I had a doctors appointment, they told me to come into the hospital on Tuesday and they would do an amniocentesis and then they would more then likely induce me. They wanted to make sure that the babies lungs were developed before they induced me. I called my mom as soon as I got home and she headed over, Marc took time off of work and I tried to get mentally ready for it all. Tuesday morning we went to the hospital and first off they had to get an IV in. The nurse tried to get one in but couldn't, of course in the process I just about passed out. They decided that they needed to call the IV specialists, so she came in and tried and couldn't get it in and then tried again and finally got it. Next came in the doctor to do the amniocentesis, which scared me to death, and if anyone tells you that they don't hurt, they do, but I survived. Then they had us wait for about an hour and then they came in with the news, her lungs are not ready yet. So all that for nothing, and I get to do it all over again on Monday.

pregnancy update

My doctor has been a little worried because I have been measuring bigger then I should be so she scheduled me for an ultrasound today. It was fun to see the baby again she looks really cute she has chubby cheeks and you could see a little hair. At one point you could see her bend her knee and give me a good kick which I felt. After they did all the measurements they showed that she was weighing 9 lbs. already and I still have three weeks to go. It looks like I may be having this baby earlier then planned.
This is a profile of her faceThose are her cheeks and her tongue sticking out here is her face with her arm by her chin.

Easter

We had a very nice Easter. We made Easter baskets again, the kids had fun coloring them and it kept them entertained for quite a while. Nicole, Katie, Hailey, and Kyle
The Easter bunny left them a couple of treats inside and hid a few eggs in the living room. It was fun watching the kids look for the eggs they would get so excited when they found one. Katie

We spent the day watching conference. The kids did really well, Kyle and Hailey took notes and the twins played quietly. In between sessions we colored and dyed Easter Eggs. After conference we went out to Marcs parents house for dinner and an Easter Egg hunt. It was a very nice day.

Soccer

The kids started soccer practice a couple of weeks ago, and on Saturday they had their first game. Haileys game was first she is lots of fun to watch and she always has a good time, her team did well and she is enjoying making new friends. Kyles game was next, he only had 4 players show up so he got to play the whole time which he loves, even though he seemed awfully tired afterwards. He ran hard the whole time and I think that he made 4 goals, he was very happy about that. He has the same coach that he had last year and is learning a lot.

Spring Break

This last week was spring break for the kids. We didn't do a whole lot the first part of the week, I was hoping that the weather would be nice so we could go on some outings to the park and play outside a lot but the weather didn't cooperate, but it was still nice having them all home. On Thursday morning we drove over to Vancouver to visit Leah and her family. We spent the afternoon walking around and playing at a park by her house. She lives in a great place to go for walks, it was really nice.

The kids had a great time playing with Naomi, she is so cute, and my kids were pretty cute with her.

Thursday night we stayed at a hotel so after dinner we went over there and went swimming. The water in the pool was pretty cold but it didn't seem to bother Kyle or Hailey very much.

Usually staying in a hotel isn't much fun because no one sleeps very well, this was the best hotel experience we have had. We got a suite this time so there was a king sized bed and a sofa bed in one room and then a sliding door into another room that had a king bed. all the girls shared one bed and Kyle got the sofa and they slept really well. It was worth the little extra that it cost for that room.

Friday we got up and went to the OMSI it is a science center in Portland. The kids have been pretty excited about it and I think that they had a good time. There were a lot of hands on activities which they really liked, and we went to an IMAX movie. They ended up really liking the movie it was about the ocean and animals that live in it.
We drove home Friday night the drive was awful, there was tons of road construction and very heavy rain and snow, but we made it. It was a really fun little vacation, it was great to see Leah and her family and to spend time together as a family.
