Early Friday morning we left and drove over to my parents house for the annual Grandpa Camp. We were so excited to finally get there and see everyone. This year the theme was "roughin it". We all got checked in and got our camp t- shirts, which were very cute. We got tents set up and made flags, and then took pictures with Grandma and Grandpa.
Next we participated in the family challenge. It consisted of four things that each family had to accomplish, first one done was the winner, fist throw a ball into a bucket, next build something that you could carry a family member on and move them all the way up the hill and back down, my dad had a bunch of trees to cut down to use to build our carrying devices. then you had to get all your members across the pickle ball court using only 3 peices of cardboard, your feet couldnt touch the court. and finally you had to build a lookout tower that someone could sit on that was at least 6 feet tall. We did not win, but we did it, and was lots of fun.
Next we had lunch, after lunch we had a bunch of stations going on that the kids could rotate through. There was soap carving, zip-line, fire starting, and archery.
The guys all had to leave to start on their dutch oven cooking later that afternoon, so Leah and I took all the kids out on the lawn and played games.
Then we went up to my Grandmas house and ate delicious dutch oven cooking and because it was the twins birthday we had birthday cake.
dinner was followed with our annual talent show. There were some very good talents this year, as always, we had some acting, singing and magic tricks, and us Murdocks showed off our hula-hooping skills.
Then it was off to sleep in our tents. Lydia kept telling us that she loves sleeping in tents because it is so cozy. For breakfast we tried some of our food storage food, it wasnt as bad as I had thought it would be, and it was fun to try. After breakfast we played a great game of capture the flag. One team was Dads and their daughters and the other team was moms and their sons. It was lots of fun.
Joe read us a story about a watermelon seed contest so we all had a watermelon snack and kept track of how many seeds we found in our watermelon.
Then the younger kids played in the pool, and the older kids and Dads worked on catching our lunch. My Dad had put in a pond and put about 15 trout in the pond, we weren't having much luck catching them with a fishing pole, so some Dads tried making and using spears, the kids tried their hands and a net. They eventually caught them and cooked them up for lunch. And they sure had fun catching them.
Hailey caught one with her hands
After lunch we went down to the field and played some kick ball, and other lawn games.
It was another wonderful Grandpa Camp, I am so glad that my parents put the time and effort into this, it is so fun to get together, it is especially fun to watch the kids develop relationships with each other.
We stayed another night, Marc went out to dinner with the guys, Rachel and Stephanie stayed as well so we enjoyed having more time to visit. We went to church in the morning, My Dad and Stephanie were the speakers, they both did a wonderful job and it was fun to see people that I knew growing up. Then we made the long drive home, but what a great week.
